I’ve been on an internal kick to get some furniture to make our home in San Jose feel like home for the short amount of time we will be living there. Justin doesn’t get it at all and tries to remind me its temporary, as if I’d forgotten. I haven’t forgotten I’m just home most of the day and would like it to feel like home. I think there are two types of people, those that can pretty much live anywhere and feel comfortable and those who need to have their home look and feel like home to be comfortable. If you’re wondering which type I am, I’m definitely the latter.
I got a degree in Interior Architecture so I’m all about the space that I’m in to look and feel good. Your home is an extension of yourself and your personal style. I’ve never had a big home decor budget though and it wasn’t until we purchased our home in Santa Cruz that Justin and I started to spend a little money on our furniture. We started by upgrading our living room furniture and that didn’t happen until before Mason was born. We didn’t want to bring home our baby and have him be on our old used sofa.
So I found a sofa that I liked, clean and modern design from Wayfair. Our friend works for a flooring company so he really helped us get some new area rugs for our living room and Masons nursery.
Obviously, all of the furniture for Mason’s room we bought new before he was born and we upgraded our bed frame to an upholstered one since we didn’t want to chance Mason getting hurt on the wooden bed frame that we had before. We still haven’t purchased a new dining room set since we have such a small space and can only fit a bistro table and a few chairs.
Wow I’ve gone off on a tangent there but I guess I wanted to give you all some background. So now we’re living in San Jose and have brought the bare minimum over. Rather than move all our furniture out for just a couple of months we took furniture from my in-laws who are currently going through a remodel and were going to be getting rid of the furniture anyway. We brought a pack n play for Mason instead of breaking down his crib to move it over. So I feel kind of like we’re back in college. Our mattress is on the floor with no bed frame. The nice thing is that Mason has an entire room just for his toys which we don’t have at our house in Santa Cruz.
Since I’m not going to buy all new furniture to fill up this house I thought if I could make one area feel fresh and like us that would be enough for me. We’re spending a lot of time outdoors and that’s why I wanted to get some outdoor lounge chairs. I know I can find a place for them back home too! We have a fire pit we never really use right now since we don’t have any chairs around it so that’s exactly where I’d move them to once we’re back home. But if anyone has done furniture shopping them you know how expensive furniture can be! I found the perfect outdoor lounge chair design but they’re a bit more than I want to spend so now I’ve searched high and low to find some less expensive options and wanted to share my finds with all of you!
