Now that Justin and I know we’re having a boy I am so excited to get going on our nursery! I’m sad to see my closet/office go but it couldn’t be for a better reason. I’ve chosen to work with NousDecor, an online interior design service, to work on designing our nursery. I could have done it myself, but right now time is hard to come by, as I’m sure you can understand if you’ve read my recent post (here). I have a background in interior design so you’d think for sure I would be doing this on my own but I’ve found that it’s way easier to design a space for a client than it is to design a space for yourself. As a designer you listen to your clients needs, wants, and preferences, and provide them the best options with what is available in their budget. But when it’s for you, you know about all of the options available in all the different price points and so choosing what to get for yourself becomes that much more difficult.
There’s a few reasons why I decided to work with an online interior design service in comparison to working with a local interior designer. Number one reason was cost. Hiring a designer isn’t cheap. Using a service like NousDecor is much more reasonable and the cost is by room. Number two, most designers don’s want to design just one room in your house. They want to work on projects that can be a show piece for them so our project of just doing the nursery wouldn’t probably appeal to them anyway. Number three, it requires multiple meetings which is time that I don’t have during the day especially during the workweek so finding a designer that could work around our schedule would have been really difficult. It is a little weird to think your working with an interior designer without ever meeting them in person though. Because having been a designer before, a large part of our success is getting to know your clients very well to be able to provide them with the spaces they truly want and will love to live in for years to come. So, for this reason, I thought I’d share with y’all how easy the process was to work with NousDecor before revealing our nursery.
To start, you take a style quiz so that the designer you work with will get a good sense for your design aesthetic. This is so important, especially since you will not been meeting face to face to discuss.
You then pick through similar project images to pick your style inspiration. There were so many cute modern and neutral baby boy nursery inspiration images that I found on Pinterest to upload to give my designer Mark Cutler and idea of what I was looking for. I also uploaded pictures of my closet/office that is going to be transformed into a nursery. I took the pictures super early in the morning before I left for my commute so the lighting wasn’t great. Since the room isn’t being used for the same purpose as it is now, I didn’t need to select pieces that were going to stay in the room, but if you do have pieces that you want to keep in your new design you can upload them to your project and they’ll work them into the design.
Mark and his team sent me a few options for nursery room designs and I was able to send them my comments on each so that they tailored the space to what I was looking for. Then once you say that you like the design they send you a list of the products used so that you can purchase directly from them the pieces that you would like. You don’t need to buy everything all at once and you are not obligated to buy anything but it makes it really easy, if you do.
I can’t wait to get my furniture pieces and decor ordered, delivered, and installed so that I can share with you all my nursery reveal! Until then…here’s some of the pieces in the room and similar options available for you to shop!
