Today I’ve decided to share with you all what’s in my hospital bag and when to start thinking about putting it together. I’m currently in my last month of pregnancy, you heard me right, last month! I’m 36.5 weeks right now and my due date is less than one month away!! How did it get here so quickly?? My friend asked me the other day if I’ve got my hospital bag packed already and I just about freaked out. I hadn’t even started to think about it to be quite honest. Justin and I are just finally starting our childbirth prep classes and so the hospital bag, wasn’t even on my radar. I knew it needed to get done, and the earlier the better but our due date just seemed so far out in the future and then one day I blinked and here we are one month away!
I know the story is most first babies don’t arrive on time, especially not early, but the trend I’ve seen with my recent friends who have been pregnant is well they’ve all come early or just a few days past their due date. So I guess, the baby could come any day now and I’d prefer to be prepare rather than frantically trying to pack a bag for the hospital in-between contractions. How horrible does that sound?!!
So thanks to my friend Ashley for asking the question because it got me thinking and packing! I didn’t even have a designated bag before our conversation and now I’ve got a fully packed hospital bag and here’s what’s inside:
For me-
Soft, basic robe (for overnight)
PinkBlush Maternity robe (for pictures)
2 Sets of PJ’s (we live 5 minutes from the hospital so if I need more Justin or someone else can go and get me more)
Ugg Slippers
2 nursing sports bras
2 nursing bras
Maternity yoga pants (I’ve been living in these)
4 pairs of full coverage boy shorts
2 chambray button down shirts
2 nursing tank tops
Shampoo, Conditioner, and body wash
Hair ties!
Evian spray (I swear by this stuff and I’m sure it will come in handy)
Makeup
Disposable Nursing Pads (not glamorous)
Nipple Cream (not glamorous)
Pads – the overnight kind in case I end up bleeding a lot (also not glamorous)
Bottle of Witch Hazel (Now this I had NO idea about at all. Thank you Ashley for filling me in! I’ll spare you the details just when it’s time to deliver look it up)
For baby A-
3 swaddle blankets (same brand different designs)
3 newborn onesies
1 going home outfit
Note: All above was written by me in advance and when I say advance I mean just a couple of days and in those few days my pregnancy had decided to throw me a curve ball. On Thursday at my last ultrasound and doctors appointment (If you follow me on insta then you most likely already know) I found out that we were likely going to have to be induced THIS WEEKEND!! So that last part about not wanting to be rushed when packing my hospital bag pretty much turned into my reality. I’ve been to the doctors again yesterday and I almost was going to need to go over to the hospital right then and there. Thankfully my doctor said I could go home to finish packing my hospital bag and I’m planned to visit the hospital today for another stress test and see if the induction has to be today or if it can wait until Sunday night as scheduled. So, I went on an emergency Target run yesterday afternoon before my doctors appointment to purchase some much needed items, like breastfeeding bras, overnight pads, and witch’s hazel (glamorous, I know!). So from experience sake now, I’d suggest that your hospital bag be packed at least one month prior to your due date. It seems like it’s so far in advance but honestly it isn’t. That was my goal all along but then other things just seemed to get in the way of my making it a priority.
