In between breast-feeding and pumping you’ve got to sterilize all of the parts that you’ve used before being able to use them again. A bottle sterilizer can cut down on the time you spend cleaning those parts. If you’re doing this by hand this process can take some time. If you’ve got a fussy baby, like I do, it can be the difference between getting him fed and happy or watching a major meltdown unfold, if you’re not ready when he’s ready to feed.
Before Dr. Brown’s deluxe bottle sterilizer I would have to hand wash each piece myself. To sterilize it I would heat up water in the microwave to get it hot enough to really clean all the pieces. This took a while and sometimes right after I put Mason down after feeding, I’d be midway through cleaning everything before he was ready for round two! Mason loves to eat and I’m happy for that since he needs to continue to put on weight. It’s crazy to think that at two months old he weighs as much as many babies do when they’re first born.
Dr. Brown’s deluxe bottle sterilizer is great because I can load it up with everything I’ve used, bottles and pumping parts and get them clean and sterilized in no time! It doesn’t take up any more water than it would if I were to wash everything by hand; honestly I think it uses less.
There are many baby products that I’ve found really aren’t all that necessary but this is not one of them. I’d say definitely get it if you’re planning on breast-feeding and pumping it will seriously save you so much time, since you can load it then walk away, plus the piece of mind knowing that everything is really sterile for your baby!!
