Having a newborn can make it a challenge to get out of the house. They come with a lot of extra stuff, especially if you plan to be out of the house for more than an hour or so. As a new mom, I found myself worrying about what might happen while we were out that I would choose to either stay at home and wait till Justin came home from work to watch Mason for me to then go out and run the errands I needed to do or just go out for quick walks around the block to get some fresh air. Now that Mason is two months old I’m finding the courage to venture farther away from the house for longer periods of time. I have my tried and true things I bring with me and I have my checklist so I make sure I don’t forget anything important (like my wallet, enough diapers, or an extra change of clothes).
I’m not one to breastfeed in public so I always take a bottle or two of my pumped breastmilk for while we are out. I love using our glass bottles with silicone sleeve. I know that glass bottles are heavier than their plastic counterparts but I much prefer to use glass. I love the shape of these bottles because it makes it easier to hold and the sleeve makes it so that I won’t drop the bottle. I’ve got them in two sizes a shorter one for 150ml of breastmilk or a taller one for 270ml of breastmilk, so depending on how long I plan to be out I choose what will work best and always bring a little more than I think I will need because you never know what might come up. Of course, if I need to, I can always breastfeed I’ll just have to get over my insecurity about it.
I also always travel with more than one pacifier. They are a great way to soothe Mason when we’re out if he’s starting to get fussy. Car rides typically soothe him and make him fall asleep but there are times, like the other day, when I’m stuck in stop and go traffic and Mason is having a screaming and crying fit in the backseat. A pacifier works perfectly then to calm him down until we get to our destination and I can find out what’s bothering him. I really like this turtle pacifier from Dr. Brown’s because it’s easy to keep track of and is something Mason can also play with in his carseat or stroller. It’s pretty much impossible to misplace and we all know how easy it can be to loose pacifiers!
These are just two products from Dr. Brown’s that I won’t leave the house without. They make it much easier to get out of the house and enjoy the day or do the things I need to do so that I don’t have to rely on Justin when he gets home to get my errands done.
Top: BB Dakota, last year (similar under $60). Poncho: Max Studio (on sale!). Choker: Stella & Dot. Jeans: Mossimo. Flats: Target, old (loving this version).
