It can sometimes be tough to find the perfect fit for your petite frame and even more challenging to buy a dress and wear it without any alterations of course depending on the length of the dress. Work appropriate dresses seem to be the hardest for me since the hemline is typically longer and hits me right below or middle of my knee, not a good length for me at all. So when I found this dress the other day at Marshall’s, the same day as my work party, I wanted to wear it over any of the dresses in my closet and didn’t have time to get it altered. Why have I not been able to find a single alterations place in Santa Cruz that is able to do same day service? The things is miss about living in a metropolitan city! Anyway, since this has always been an issue for me I thought I’d share one little trick that I have figured out so that I can wear out a newly purchased dress without needing to get it altered first.
Fit is everything. You need a form fitting dress up top so that you can easily hide this alterations trick. At your natural waist, fold up and under the dress material that you need in order to raise your hemline so it hits at the right place on your thigh. Use a waist belt to conceal the fold line. Depending on the dress and material you may need to use a wide belt in comparison to at thin one.
