I’m almost positive I’ve written a similar post a few years ago because mixing prints is something I love to do! And so many people ask me how to mix prints the “right” way. I’d like to think of myself as an expert in this area since I do it so often and love finding new combinations to mix.
I’ve had these palm leaf pants for two years now. They were an investment purchase but I have no regrets in splurging on them. I wore this exact outfit during my recent trip to Catalina Island and again this weekend down in LA. Sometimes you pack for the weather and other times you pack outfits you know are going to fit in with the location you are going to be.
I knew as soon as I booked in a brunch at the Beverly Hills Hotel that this outfit would be a perfect match for their decor. Their color scheme is pale pink and green. They have palm leaves throughout the hotel and they mix the print so beautifully with pink and stripes. The Beverly Hills Hotel is very Hollywood glam and I felt like my bubble sleeve blouse would be the perfect compliment to my pants and their hotel color scheme and decor. PS my top is currently 40% off making it under $30!!! Scoop it up before it’s gone! It comes in pink and black 🙂 I think I might pick up the black now that it’s on sale. Oh and just so you know, I’m wearing a size small. It’s cropped so if you don’t like to show your tummy (like me) I’d order a size up.
Tips for mixing prints like a pro:
1. Select complimenting colors (ie green and pink)
2. Pull one color from your dominant print and have that be in your coordinating piece. The pale pink pinstripe in my balloon sleeve blouse while it’s not the exact same shade of pink in the pants pulls the two pieces together.
3. Make sure your prints are varying in size. Pick one bold print and one smaller print.
4. Keep your accessories neutral so you don’t detract from the prints.
5. Have fun and play around with different combinations.
