I’d like to say that motherhood hasn’t change my personal style but in all honesty it has. At the beginning it was a drastic change. I was living in leggings and tops and rarely got dressed up to go out of the house. Before having Mason, I wouldn’t dare leave the house without looking put together, with makeup and hair done. Those first few months, it was a miracle if I got dressed in anything but loungewear. Now that Mason is 16 months old I am back to my personal style with a few minor tweaks.
Changes to my Personal Style After Motherhood
1. I’ve ditched the silk tops. I still have some that I love to wear but they are reserved for date nights, drinks with my friends, or times when Mason is being watched by my in-laws or parents. Now I prefer cotton tees, sweaters, or button-downs that are easy to breastfeed in and run around in since I’m chasing a toddler around the house all day long.
2. I’ve ditched my low-rise jeans and replaced them with high waist denim. I used to love my low rise skinny jeans but now they just don’t feel comfortable anymore. I’m loving high waist jeans and pants and feel great in them. I still have a pair or two that I’ve held onto in case I change my mind further down the road but for now I’m stocking up on high waisted EVERYTHING!!
3. I prefer flats over heels. I still wear and love my heels, I’ve built up quite the collection over the years, but now I wear them a lot less often. I’ve always loved flats but being petite I’d wear them infrequently. Now they are my staple along with boots and booties. Thankfully there are so many stylish options like my favorite mules I can’t live without to get me through the week and weekend.
4. I wear a lot less jewelry. I love my jewelry! I’m a Stella & Dot stylist because I love jewelry so much and I love S&D jewelry for everyday pieces. But for everyday wear with Mason I much more minimal when it comes to jewelry. Anything I wear he wants to grab so I have to be very careful. I still wear statement earrings or a necklace. I choose to wear a piece or two rather than earrings, necklace and an arm party because I just know I will be wanting to take them off as soon as Mason gets to grabbing at all of it.
