This past weekend we celebrated two days of Thanksgiving festivities, the second day was also my birthday! To celebrate my husband and I took a short drive to Monterey for a weekend staycation. So for today’s Travel Tuesday, instead of my usual Eat, Shop, Do post I figured I’d share my perfect Monterey in one day. On our way to Monterey we first stopped off at Gayle’s bakery to grab a small bite to eat and get our coffee to go, which for me is a perfect start to the weekend.
STAY
Sanctuary Beach Resort: Right on the Marina sand dunes, this resort makes you feel like you are far from home and steps from your own private beach, the perfect combination for a romantic getaway or some R&R. To anyone visiting the Monterey Bay, I would highly recommend this place. I loved how we were given a golf cart to use during our stay, a breakfast basket was delivered to our door with our selection from the night before, and we were just steps from the sand dunes with panoramic views of the bay.

Restaurant 1833: We headed into downtown Monterey for dinner at Restaurant 1833, one of my favorite places to go in Monterey. I love the ambiance of the restaurant, it reminds me of a restaurant you would find in San Francisco. The menu is updated nightly I believe, featuring in seasonal foods sourced locally and is absolutely delicious!! They have a great selection of wines as well as cocktails to choose from. This place definitely pays attention to the details, from serving one of their desserts out of a doctors bag smoking with dry ice, to bringing your bill in a hard cover book, or keeping your to-go boxes up front at the hostess stand and leaving you will a cute numbered tag so you wouldn’t forget to pick it up on your way out.
DO
There is nothing better or more relaxing then taking a walk along the sand dunes with the sun shining on your skin, sand between your toes, and some salt in your hair. Unfortunately for us, this weekend it was raining (which is much needed so I’m not complaining) so it meant taking the moments when the rain stopped to run outside and get our fix. So instead of a beach day we headed to the nearby movie theater to stay out of the rain. On the plus side to that, I got to finally see the latest Hunger Games! The resort had a hot tub we also took advantage of. We drove our golf cart in our robes and brought some champagne to enjoy. A great way to top off the evening after a delicious meal.
I hope you enjoyed my little snapshot of what I did in Monterey in one day!
