This past weekend the husband and I drove to Tahoe to celebrate the US Marine Corps 239th Birthday. We’ve attended the Ball every year since he joined the Marine Corps almost 7 years ago. The first few years I’d buy a dress to wear and maybe even a few new accessories. The last few years I’ve been renting my dress from Rent the Runway because let’s face it, I wear the dress once, then it just takes up space in my closet. Last year we attended two different balls, one with his unit from his deployment to Afghanistan and the other with his reserve unit in the Bay Area. I always have a great time at the Ball and feel like I get to meet some pretty great people. It’s nice to be surrounded by people who are in the same boat as I am, with a Military spouse or significant other. But my favorite part of the event is celebrating my husband and all his accomplishments. The Marine Corps has really shaped him into an amazing man who is driven and hard working, takes leadership and who has confidence in his ability to do anything he puts his mind to.
But lets talk about the dress for a minute…this year, I was drawn to this drop-waist number from Nanette Lepore. I love the light-weight knit material, super comfortable to wear and forgiving after a good, not to mention, large meal. The feather detailing on the bottom of the dress is my favorite part. It’s a great contrast to the sparkle-knit and perfect for a party dress. I paired it with my Schutz three-tone two strap pumps, my metallic Zimmermann clutch I got for attending their NYFW show, and my lovely Marrin Costello necklace that I haven’t been able to take off for days! All together I think this combo was a winner.
