Happy Friday! I am so excited as I have been anticipating this day for the last four months. Justin is graduating from his Fire Academy today and I am officially going to be a fire wife! This man that I am so fortunate enough to call my husband is the greatest man I know! When he sets his mind to something there is absolutely no stopping him. Not only did he make it through one of the toughest Fire Academy’s but, he crushed it!! I seriously couldn’t be more proud of him. I know this summer is going to be tough with it being wildfire season and he’s probably going to be sent out on a strike team or two, but I know we will get through this as we get through everything.
This isn’t my first rodeo, as Justin was an officer in the Marine Corps before this. He’s got ten years in with the Marine Corps and I’ve been there for all of them. I’ve lived through a deployment to Afghanistan with him and his strength never ceases to amaze me. I know that when he goes out for his first fire I’m sure I will have some nerves but I am confident in him and his abilities and the abilities of all the firemen and women who are part of his department, even though most of whom I haven’t met them yet.
These past four months have been very interesting, challenging at times, and I have had to hold much of the fort on my own. I have enjoyed being there for Justin and supporting him through this new phase in his life and career. There is no greater joy than helping him accomplish his dreams. He did all the hard work of course, I was just there for moral support. I make a really good study buddy so I quizzed him whenever he asked and made sure he was ready for the next day. Whatever the Academy threw at him, I was there to help get him through. I’m really happy I was able to go through this journey with him.
I can’t wait to celebrate Justin’s accomplishments this evening with our friends and family who can make it to his graduation! Looking forward to sharing a bit more about my fire wife life as time goes on. Any of you lovely ladies wives to service men?
