Mom life doesn’t really allow for many breaks. There’s no such thing as down time either. Because when your little one is asleep there is a multitude of chores waiting to be done. But it’s getting to be summertime and moms, like myself, want to have a little uninterrupted quality girl time!
Thankfully where we live you don’t have to go far to feel like you’ve gotten away! We live just a few blocks from the beach so it’s a short walk to paradise. As moms, we definitely know how to come prepared. So we packed up a nice set of snacks and some refreshing Dr Pepper that I snagged from Walmart to enjoy for a couple hours of mom time. Beach necessities like beach chairs, woven beach blanket, inflatable swan, and an umbrella to put in the sand, along with plenty of towels and I think we’re all set to enjoy the day, get some sun but also have some shade in the height of the afternoon.
I feel like girl time has become that much more precious to me since becoming a mom. If you’re a stay at home mom like I am you’re at home all day with your little one and there’s not much adult interaction. So being able to have a tribe of other moms who know exactly what you’re going through on a day-to-day basis is so great. And while we may be away from our little ones we mainly all talk about our kids! Talking about their latest milestones, the silly things they do or say, and of course how much we love them even when they drive us crazy and push us to our limits.
But it’s great to be able to let loose every now and again and just be able to enjoy each other’s company and feel like adults. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy some of your favorite childhood things. For me it’s Dr Pepper. Enjoying Dr Pepper brings back memories from my childhood and all those fun summer days with my family. I didn’t get to drink soda very often; my family was definitely into being very healthy, eating organic, and rarely did I get sugary drinks or snacks like fruit roll ups or gushers. So on special occasions or when we were on a family vacation they would let us pick out a soda to drink. As a kid I was all about mixing so I would take Dr Pepper and mix it with another soft drink to make my own flavor. I know that, that sounds pretty weird but I really liked it! If we weren’t at a restaurant where I could mix my flavors but were going to the supermarket to pick up sodas to enjoy on say a camping trip then I would immediately go towards the Dr Pepper. The original will still always be my favorite, but I do love the cherry flavored version!
I must admit after not having had soda for quite some time it was nice to sip on a Dr Pepper, but man did I forget how deliciously sweet they are!
