With the prospect of not being able to travel this summer beside possibly a camping trip or two, I have been focusing on turning our home into an oasis. Our backyard is currently a work in progress as we are in the middle of getting it ready to install artificial lawn. We’re actually working on the front and backyard and so while this summer it might not be complete I am making simple updates around our home so we can make normal days a bit more elevated.
Since this is where my focus has been the past few months, I figured I should share some simple updates you can do around your home to elevate your summer too!
Simple Updates You Can Do Around Your Home:
1. Plant some new flowers to brighten up your backyard. I just planted some daliahs as well as some ground cover flowers to hopefully fill in around the daliahs. I’ve tried a few other flowers and plants in this area before but they have always died, so I am hoping with all the time at home I’ll be able to keep them alive and thriving.
2. Find some cute pots and fill with herbs to put in your kitchen. As soon as I saw these pots at Target I knew I had to buy them. After I got them home I figured I’d get a basil and mint plant because they both smell so good.
3. Replace your old doormat with a cute new one for the season. I replaced our front and back doormats last year and have one for fall and one that’s more for spring and summer. I love being able to switch them up.
4. Add cafe lights in your backyard for an upgraded ambiance in the evening. We love our new wood pergola and ever since we built it, I knew I wanted to hang cafe lights from it so that when we enjoy our dinners outside we have the beautiful ambiance from the lights. Not to mention that it also makes it feel like we’re outside dining at a restaurant.
5. Find some cute planter stands for your front porch. I found these matching stands at my local Marshalls but was super stoked when I found that they’re available online as well. The planters I found locally as well but found some cute options for you in case you just want to order some.
6. Reorganize your home decor. To switch things up and give my home a refresh, I love to reorganize some home decor. This means switching out my candles, flower arrangements, throw pillows and throw blankets. My husband isn’t really a fan of throw pillows so getting him on board with that is hard but sometimes I can get away with having a few seasonal ones. I’m actually on the hunt for a new summer candle, preferably a beachy scent or maybe a coconut and floral scented candle.
7. Switch out some of your family photos. This is something I have been meaning to do for a long time now. I only have so much room on our walls for family photos so I want to go in an update some of them with more recent photos. I also have a few photos from trips we took (pre-covid) that I really want to have framed and put on our gallery wall.
