Since shelter in place began over 4 months ago I was concerned about how my hair was going to look coming out on the other end of this pandemic. I decided I wanted to try out some at home products that could potentially help keep my hair looking fresh, touching up my roots, and concealing the grays that are popping through. I have two brands that I trust to help get salon quality color at home and wanted to share them with you. Both can be purchased at Ulta Beauty.
With hair salons starting to open back up again in certain areas of the country these could also be great to use in between appointments. They’ll make your hair have that post salon visit shine after you apply the color reviving gloss from Madison Reed or the Gloss+ from dpHue. Keep your roots and grays at bay longer so you don’t have to go get a touch up every 4-6 weeks with either the root touch up powder from Madison Reed or 100% gray coverage from dpHue’s root touch up kit.
I wanted to find products that didn’t have the chemicals you might typically find in drug store brands. About a year ago I had partnered with Madison Reed, a hair care company that had a few brick and mortar locations in San Francisco where they offered hair color treatments and blowouts only. They were able to give my hair an amazing refresh in between my normal salon appointments and touch up my roots to give my hair better dimension. I knew that they had at-home hair coloring kits but until recently it never occurred to me to give them a try.
dpHue, is another at home hair coloring company I had heard of before but had never bought any of their products until quarantine. I love that they work with hair stylists all over the country and offer root touch up as well as permanent and semi-permanent coloring options for at-home use as well. Just like Madison Reed they offer a gloss that you can put all over your hair to give it that post salon visit shine and revitalize your hair color. This along with their root touch up kit are probably my favorite!
Both Madison Reed and dpHue have their full product line free of any harsh chemicals (ammonia, PPD, resorcinol, parabens, phthalates, gluten, SLS, and titanium dioxide). This is important to me and I believe should be important to you as well! My stylist doesn’t use products with harsh chemicals in my hair either and so there’s no way I was going to use them at home.
