The other week I took a mini vacation with Mason and my mom down to Paso Robles. I was in major need of a change of scenery. After almost two weeks on my own without Justin I was getting a bit stir crazy. Paso Robles isn’t that far but it feels like a world away from Santa Cruz. The temps are much hotter and wine country, need I say more. I’m a huge fan of wine country but typically visit Napa Valley, Saratoga, Calistoga, etc. I’ve only driven through Paso and have always wanted to come for a visit.
We spent our first afternoon in the downtown area shopping and enjoying the sunny weather. I was in need of some retail therapy and the boutiques definitely did not disappoint! I think my favorite boutique had to be Bijou on the Park. There was so much cute stuff I could have walked out with the whole store! I fell in love with this jumpsuit and couldn’t leave without it. I also scored a super cute white denim dress from JOA for 50% off! I’ll definitely be visiting them again next time I’m in town.
They were having live music in the park that evening and while we didn’t post up at the park we had dinner across the street with a table on their patio so we were able to enjoy the live music while eating our dinner. It seemed to be very crowded and people were still at the park after we finished up around 8:45pm. Not sure how late it goes but it looked like it happens every Thursday night through the summer. Definitely check it out if you’re in the area.
We stayed at La Bellasera Hotel and Suites. I got a suite to share with my mom and Mason. He loved how spacious it was and was crawling around from one end to the next and was testing out his balance next to the whirlpool that was in the suite. We had two queen beds and while they brought in a crib I ended up having Mason co-sleep with me. I know he was happy to be in the soft bed in comparison to the portable crib. Thankfully once Mason went to bed, he slept really well.
The next day we enjoyed breakfast out on the patio then changed into our swimsuits to enjoy the pool before it got too hot. It was 86 degrees at 11am! I brought Mason in the pool for the first time and he had a blast! He was splashing around and was enjoying being passed back and forth between me and my mom. He’s not quiet ready to kick his legs to swim just yet. I need to get him in swim lessons soon. After a nice relaxing morning at the pool we changed and headed out to do a little wine tasting. We stopped for lunch and wine tasting at Niner Winery. It was absolutely amazing. The food was delicious and the Rose was so amazing. I bought a bottle to bring home, it was that good!
After a leisurely afternoon we started our drive back to town. Like I said, at the beginning, it was a mini vacay but it was better then nothing. I sure wish we could have stayed one extra night, I know I would have felt that much more relaxed with one more afternoon at the pool and maybe another winery or two for wine tasting, but my mom needed to get back because just days after we got home my parents just left for a three week vacation to Norway with friends. They sure know how to make me jealous!
Ever been to Paso Robles? Would love to know what were your favorite things to do!
