This post was sponsored by Kidde Fire Safety as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central and all opinions expressed in my post are my own. October is National Fire Prevention Month. As a fire family, we feel it is so important to share this message.
Mason is still too young to understand everything we do to protect our home and what matters most to us. We feel the best way he will learn is by watching what we do and through play. Mason loves that his daddy is a fireman and has so many fire trucks that he plays with. We’ve also been able to visit Justin at work on a number of occasions either at the fire station or at one of their community volunteer events. Mason is very intrigued by the fire truck and loves checking everything out.
So far, when it comes to talking about fire safety with Mason, we make sure he understands what is ok to play with in our house and what should be left alone. He knows not to mess with wires or cords, not to try and fit anything into an outlet, to never unplug something that’s turned on, and when we’re cooking a meal to not play around the kitchen. We’ve had our smoke alarm go off while cooking dinner before and he immediately will run towards us and stay close till it’s off. Of course, they’ve been false alarms due to me not being a very good cook but it’s good that he knows to drop what he’s doing.
When it comes to protecting our family at home we have taken a number of steps. We have Kidde smoke and carbon monoxide alarms installed in our kitchen, and we have a smoke alarm in both bedrooms, and a carbon monoxide alarm in our main hallway that connects our bedrooms. We also have a fire extinguisher that is in an easy to reach location for Justin and I, but not Mason. As one of the world’s largest manufacturers of fire safety products, more than 100 years of service, we trust Kidde to help us protect what matters most, our family (dogs included) and our home.
We recently replaced our smoke alarms in our house to make sure they were all working. It’s so important to replace them every eight to ten years depending on when they go out. If you have a battery smoke alarm, like we do, than it’s best to be changing the batteries 1-2 times per year. Fortunately, for fire safety, it only takes a moment. Take the time today to protect your home and family with Kidde’s Fire Safety essentials. We get ours at The Home Depot but they’re also available at your local Walmart. I encourage you to check out Kidde smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, and fire extinguishers during your next trip!
Another precaution we’ve taken is that we have a window decal in our front window which lets first responders know that we have two dogs at home. Our yorkies are our children too. They have been a part of our family for 10 years and they are most definitely worth protecting. This was one of the first things I put on our front window when we purchased our home. They also have a doggie door that they can use to get out of the house if we’re not home. But, if they were sleeping, I want to take that extra precaution to let the firemen on the scene know to look out for them.
I’d love to know if you have older kids, how you approach the fire safety conversation with your kids, as I know that time will be approaching for us sooner than we think!
As always, thank you so much for stopping by the blog today! I hope you enjoyed this post!!
