I can’t believe I am sitting here writing a post 6 months postpartum. Where has the time gone??? I feel like I’ve just blinked my eye and my tiny 4 pound 11 ounce baby is now a little human! While things seem to be moving so fast with Mason, you can read my 6 month update on him here, my postpartum body transformation seems to be moving quite slowly. I had given myself six months to get back into my pre-baby shape and let me tell you, I still have about 11 pounds to go. My bump has gone down sizably but there is still a nice layer that needs to be shed. My abs do not feel at all the same yet though I’ve been strength training to build my muscle back and to be able to keep up with Mason as he grows. You’d think by now, or at least I did, that my arms would be super toned because of how much I am holding Mason but alas I still have a ways to go till I’m happy with the look of them.
If you’ve been following along with me on social media you’ve probably heard me mention my stroller strides and/or body back classes. They have really helped me thus far to get closer to my goals. Just two weeks ago was the end of my first 8 week session. I am so proud of my results but I know I won’t be totally happy till I’m 100% to my goals. What I liked most, besides the workouts of course and the new friends/mom tribe that I made, was the fact that they measured my progress from the first class to the last class and I’ve lost 9.6 pounds and a total of 9.75 inches! I would have never really known that myself nor would I have tracked that progress. Checking out my before and after picture side by side was super helpful to see (I’m a very visual person) and it’s hard to really see the progress yourself week by week as it’s slow changing over the course of the eight weeks. I felt better and felt stronger but how much I wasn’t really sure until I saw my results on paper.
I know I shouldn’t be hard on myself, progress is progress, and it did take me almost 9 months of growing and stretching before Mason arrived (he was born at 37 weeks) but I was still so hopeful that my body would bounce back quicker knowing that I stick to eating a pretty healthy diet and like to be physically active. But I’ve signed up for another 8 week session and so I am hopeful that this will be the session that gets me back to my pre-baby weight and continues to tone and shape my body. I also know that I need to become much stronger to keep up with Mason as he grows!
Any of you mamas have a similar or totally different experience from me? I’d love to hear your fitness goals and what you’ve been doing to reach them postpartum! I’d love for this post and comments below to act like a community of mamas supporting other mamas so no negative or critical comments allowed!!
