Since shortly after Mason was born we realized that he had a sensitivity to dairy so with a bit of resistance I decided to try going dairy free to see if that was in fact Mason’s issue. If you know me well, then you know that I am obsessed with cheese. I think me biggest misconception/fear before getting pregnant was that I was going to have to give up my favorite cheeses, fresh mozzarella and burrata. Thankfully my doctor let me know that it’s totally safe to eat soft cheeses as long as they are pasteurized so I thankfully did not have to give it up during my pregnancy. So, to have to give it up now that Mason was born was a hard pill to swallow at first.
It’s been almost six months of me eating no dairy and I have to say the longer I go the less I miss it. Every now and again, I’m not gonna lie when I walk past the fresh mozzarella at the store or see burrata on the menu at a restaurant I get a little FOMO. But thankfully I’ve found so many great dairy free alternatives that I thought I’d share with you all. There are products that I love so much now I don’t think I will go back to eating regular yogurt, ice cream, or milk again. I’ve even found some dairy free cheese that I love.
I must say that the Kite Hill products are by far my favorite. Everything I have tried has tasted absolutely delicious. My test for if a dairy free alternative product is worth a gold medal is having Justin taste it. If he’s loving it as an option for lunch, dinner, or a snack then I know it’s good. Cause if he doesn’t then I’m having to buy double. One dairy free option for me and one regular option for him. I’d much rather find things he’ll enjoy eating and not feel like he’s having to give something up because I’m having to be dairy free for our baby. Just last night Justin requested that I buy another one of the Kite Hill soft truffle cheese spreads. He literally finished it before I was able to have any with my favorite crackers from Whole Foods.
Next I’ve got to give a shout out to the Daiya vegan mac n cheese. Oh boy it’s good. I mean honestly, I could barely taste the difference to regular mac n cheese. I was so surprised at how good it was I forced Justin to take and bit and his reaction was priceless. He literally took my spoon and scooped out a second tasting of it before handing it back to me. Thank goodness I know don’t have to buy him the Kraft mac n cheese anymore because I think he’ll be more than happy with my Daiya mac n cheese.
Now I’ve always been an Amy’s Kitchen fan. I was a vegetarian for 20 years. I love their frozen food for quick no fuss meals. I found that they have a slew of dairy free options of some of my favorites, like their bean burritos. The bean and rice burrito fixes my craving for them without needing the cheese. Their Thai green curry meal for two is so yummy. And almost all of their light & lean options are dairy free.
Since I’ve been doing my body back workout classes I’ve been really liking have protein bars to snack on before or after class before dinner. Finding a good dairy free protein bar was a little tough at first. I was so happy to find the Nugo organic bars. They’re so tasty, not powdery like some protein bars are.
One product I forgot to put in my main roundup that as I’m writing this I realize that they really need a mention are the bites from LARABAR. When you need a little pick me up or something to cure your sweet tooth craving then look now further than LARABAR mint chocolate truffles. No joke, they are the bomb dot com. I’m eating one now as I finish up writing this post.
Are you dairy free and don’t see a product that you think should be on this list, let me know! I’m always up to trying new foods!!
