Installing new window shades has been on my list of home upgrades since we bought our house almost 6 years ago. I absolutely hated the cheap white blinds that came with the home. One of them was even broken from the get go. But, it wasn’t high enough priority to take care of early on in our home ownership since we had much more pressing projects to do like our kitchen remodel, bathroom remodel, living room update, and backyard pergola, to name a few.
But, since we’ve been on our shelter in place, we decided why not just go ahead and finally replace our old basic wood blinds for some new honeycomb shades. They’re much better at letting in diffused light during the day as well as being completely private day and night. I couldn’t be happier with how they turned out and they were super easy to install. We bought them off Amazon. To be honest I was a little worried about the quality and look. Since we couldn’t get samples of the shade colors, I had to select somewhat blindly. But, I read the reviews of multiple options before selecting the ones we did.
The honeycomb shades we went with had the widest range of sizes available allowing us to get as close as possible to the actual dimensions of our window openings. I went with two different colors only because not all window sizes were available in one color. We went with grey in the living room and kitchen (FYI the color looks a lot darker on Amazon than it actually is in real life) and seashell in the bedrooms and in our pantry area. Both we selected with the white backside so from the outside they all look the same. Swapping out the shades in the kitchen made a huge difference because we were able to set the new shade inside the window as compared to outside mounted on the window trim and so now our two cabinets on the wall above our kitchen sink can now swing open all the way as compared to before when they could only open on an angle.
The quality of these shades are really good, especially for the price. I was pleasantly surprised when they arrived. We actually ordered a few blinds from another company selling on Amazon and returned them because the quality was not great. The two that we had opened and hung in our living room we obviously couldn’t return but the loss on those two was not worth skimping on the quality when we saw the other one.
It’s crazy how one little swap can make such a huge difference in each of these rooms. We spent $518 total for all the window shades that we replaced in our living room, kitchen, and both bedrooms. Also included in that total are the two window shades we had installed first in the living room but decided we liked the quality of the other window shade so much more that we didn’t want to keep them. It took Justin not long at all to install them and only really needed my help for the window shades above our bed.
As always, thank you for stopping by the blog today!
