So it’s now been a few weeks since Mason’s first birthday party and I’m finally getting around to sharing. There are very few things that Mason is totally into right now but Daniel Tiger is one of them. He absolutely lights up when he hears the theme song. So I figured why not throw a Daniel Tiger themed birthday party for Mason. Since Mason is only one, I feel like this birthday was as much a celebration of him turning one as it was for Justin and I.
I’m just going to put it out there that it’s no easy feat keeping a baby alive for one year. Well actually keeping the baby alive isn’t really the hard part, it’s everything else that is tested. Your patience and sanity are put to the test because #sleepdeprivation. Your marriage is put to the test because your world has changed completely and #sleepdeprivation. There are one too many #momfails (there’s no manual on how to be the best parents for YOUR baby) and because you guessed it #sleepdeprivation.
One of the things I’m most proud of is that through this first year we were able to keep our marriage strong. That no matter what our house looked like, no matter how many dishes were piled high in the sink, no matter how much laundry was sitting in the hampers just waiting to be folded, the number one priority has and continues to be loving, caring, and providing for our tiny human. I may be partial but I must say that Mason is just the best baby. His happiness radiates and joy is infectious. I feel so blessed to be his mama and to watch him grow everyday and develop his incredible personality!!
So while some may think a baby birthday party might be boring if you don’t have a baby, Justin and I pulled out all the stops to make it fun for all! I wanted to make the decor of the party kid themed but also not too baby so adults could like it. Thanks to my father-in-law we had a trolly for the kids to take pictures in and thanks to my mom, mother-in-law, and friend Ione I was able to create that balloon garland to make it obvious where the party was and also festive without being too childish.
We hired a taco bar to serve tacos for our guests and I got the cutest Daniel Tiger themed cake. I got a tiered cake since we were expecting over 50 people. I got one layer in red velvet and the other layer in confetti cake; both were a huge hit! I also bought organic snacks that the kids could enjoy but it seemed that all the adults liked them just as much! I could tell Mason was fully enjoying himself and he really liked all the attention. While we already did his cake smash I still wanted him to have something special so we got him a cupcake to enjoy.
I didn’t take really any pictures during the party except for Mason eating his cupcake and Mason playing with some of his friends at the very end because I was just enjoying myself, our friends and family that were able to make it, and was trying to spark up conversation with everyone. One thing I’ve learned over the years when hosting parties is it’s very tough to spend time with everyone when you’re the hostess. It definitely helped that the food was being taken care of and I had Mason to bring to everyone so they could say hi and make him smile and in most cases laugh as well. This kid knows how to make people happy and let loose and be silly with him.
