I had no idea how emotional I would get about Mason turning one. Words cannot describe how I am feeling. I am happy and sad at the same time, grateful and relived, and humbled because I know many are not nearly as lucky as we are. Our pregnancy leading up to the birth of my son wasn’t smooth sailing and the delivery itself was a bit dramatic. There were moments when I just had to leave it up to god to take care of Mason and for me to have the strength and power to push Mason out when I wasn’t contracting nor was his heart beating. I think back on those moments and can’t help but cry happy cries because here we are one year later and Mason is a very healthy and happy baby. But just a year ago there I was so worried for my baby’s safety, trying not to go to a place where I would stress when I know I needed to be on my A game, and hoping that we wouldn’t be one of those parents never to meet our baby healthy and breathing.
Sorry this went dark fast, but this was our reality and I think I really played it down when he was born because I was just so happy he was here, alive, and mine. Our tiny 4 lbs. 11 oz. baby was perfect and we’ve since watched him grow, develop, and have this amazing personality. He’s quite the talker, just like his mama, and he’s definitely got some Italian in him because boy does he love using his hands when he talks. I have never met a happier baby but he also sure knows how to work his mama and dada, crying and wailing until he gets what he wants.
Mason is our whole world and we just love him to the moon and back, 1,000,000 times. We can’t wait to see what this next year brings for him and know he will flourish as he continues to grow and develop on track. His face lights up my life day in and day out and I cannot thank my husband enough for making it possible for me to stay home with him during this most important first year of his life.
We did our smash cake photoshoot a week before Mason turned one because I was in New York for NYFW and just came home last night so I’d be home first thing when Mason woke up on his b-day. This mama wouldn’t miss this day for the world!!! I plan to have the entire day revolve around him, but then again almost everyday revolves around him from when he wakes up to when he goes to bed. Sadly Justin can’t take off work so we will be celebrating as a family when Justin gets home from work.
