Thanks to the Fourth of July holiday weekend, my husband and I decided to drive up the coast Saturday morning for a little weekend getaway. We planned a last minute trip up to Tomales Bay, Petaluma, and Sonoma. We went to Tomales Bay so that we could stop at Hog Island Oyster Company before going wine tasting. Justin loves oysters, so I thought it would be a great trip we both could enjoy.
It was so nice to start our trip by driving over the Golden Gate bridge out of the fog and into the sunshine!
It was such a lovely drive to Tomales Bay and when we got to Hog Island Oyster Co we were not disappointed. That place was bustling with people. You could see right away that this was a destination spot for so many people. We ate tons of oysters, and for someone who was a vegetarian and only recently started eating fish (it’s been almost two years now) I ate more oysters in that afternoon than I have in my entire life, no joke.
Petaluma surprised me. We weren’t planning on staying the night there but when all the dog friendly spots in Tomales Bay and Sonoma were booked, that’s last minute traveling for ya, we were able to find a place in Petaluma so that’s where we stayed. The downtown is darling, they had some unexpected foodie places and the cutest creamery I’ve ever stepped foot into.
Sonoma, as always didn’t disappoint. Again, since we had the pups it was a little different experience than it usually is. It allowed us to try new wineries, rather than go back to our usual suspects and I liked that. The husband and I far too often choose to do things and go places where we are comfortable and know we will like. We’ve been trying more and more to break away from our comfort zones so we can continue to explore and find new places we want to keep coming back to.
Overall, we couldn’t have asked for a better weekend! We just wish it could have lasted a few more days. I hope you all had an amazing Fourth of July weekend filled with many great memories!
