I have been using Dove products since I was probably 5 years old (or whenever my parents started using soap on me) so when Dove wanted to partner with me to talk about winter skincare I was really excited about the opportunity. This is a brand that I love and trust and use daily! The products I use regularly are their Dove Beauty Bar for sensitive skin and Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant, currently loving Rebalance.
Tips for Taking Care of Your Winter Skin
I don’t know about you but for me in the wintertime my skin gets dry, irritated easily, and sometimes itchy. It is so important to keep your skin hydrated year-round. Winter is a great time to repair your skin from damage over the summer months and guard against dry skin. One way I ensure that I keep my skin hydrated is by working it into my morning and bedtime routine. Dove’s dermatologist, Dr. Alicia Barba recommends that you wash your face, apply a retinol, and moisturize every night.
One thing I don’t do often enough is exfoliate my skin. I exfoliate the skin on my body more than I do my face and I definitely don’t exfoliate my lips nearly enough. During the winter that actually might not be such a bad thing. Well at least don’t over exfoliate. It can have the reverse effects that you want. Over exfoliating can strip your skin of its essential oils leading to breakouts, Dr. Barba says. So, when you do decide to exfoliate make sure you are keeping your skin hydrated by using a hydrating cleanser and applying moisturizer afterwards.
Don’t just moisturize your face, make sure you are applying moisturizer on everywhere. This can easily be overlooked during the winter when you’re bundled up but it’s so important to wear lotion on your entire body and to apply moisturizer on your neck, chest, and hands as well.
Another great tip from Dr. Alicia Barba is to take care of your underarms. Underarm skin is extra sensitive. Fabrics in sweaters, undergarments, and t-shirts can irritate the skin. In the winter, you’re layering clothing so you need a product that keeps you hydrated and protected. Dove Advanced Care is formulated with moisturizers to help alleviate irritation and leave you with softer and smoother underarms. I know after years of using Dove deodorants this formula has been working great for my skin. It’s never irritated and my skin is definitely softer than it was before.
This is a little embarrassing for me to admit (please don’t judge) but I’m so focused on caring for Mason that there are days when I leave the house and realize I’ve forgotten to do some of the basic care necessities for myself, like brush my teeth after breakfast or put on deodorant! Thankfully, Dove Advanced Care provides 48-hour odor and wetness protection, plus added skin care benefits for softer, smoother underarms so I don’t need to worry about being smelly. Dove’s got me covered!
Now a quick refresh on your new winter skincare routine; make sure to moisturize daily, build it into your nighttime routine, don’t forget about the areas of your body that are covered up in the winter, don’t over exfoliate your skin, buy a deodorant that lasts 48 hours and keeps your skin hydrated.
