Sometimes, those impromptu trips are the best trips! I’ve been wanting to travel more now that Mason is a little older. I’d like to be able to take him on short weekend trips more often than just a planned long week to two week family vacation. I’ve got a few trips planned already, sans Mason, or at least they’re in the works for later this summer and beginning of fall. But, when Justin was able to go to his friends bachelor party in Scottsdale, AZ (we were waiting to see if he got called on a strike team before booking his flight) I thought it would be a fun opportunity to take Mason for a quick vacay and get a change of scenery.
We recently got a Southwest credit card that we’ve been racking up points on and I also have a buddy pass that goes through next year. Justin is my buddy pass and so I figured if I was going to be using my points for his flight anyway, I might as well go along, and then use the buddy pass for his flight. Makes sense, doesn’t it?!
I know what you might be thinking, why would I crash the bachelor party? But, I didn’t! I booked a room at The Saguaro Scottsdale which was about 15 minutes from the hotel the guys were going to be staying at. Mason and I stayed there and Justin met up with us when all the guys left Sunday morning. This way, he was able to do his own thing on Saturday and we were able to relax as a family on Sunday.
The Saguaro Hotel is so colorful!! I’ve always wanted to stay at their hotel in Palm Springs but haven’t had a chance to do so yet so when I heard they had a location in Scottsdale, I knew I had to stay there. I was obsessed with all the details. Everyone there was so nice and helpful! We got room service Saturday night after a long day of travel and a photoshoot we did first thing after we checked in. Mason was such a trooper as I did outfit change after outfit change. He was in one of my shoots, and I can’t wait to share that with you all soon!
Unfortunately, when we checked in our room didn’t have working AC. The room was 94 degrees when we walked in and let’s just say, all my makeup melted (I mean sweated off) before my first outfit shoot. Because I had this photoshoot planned, and needed to race off to meet my photographer I couldn’t switch rooms until after we were done. Each outfit change, I was more sweaty than the last an my clothes were literally sticking to me as I tried to change outfits. Not the most pleasant experience as I’m sure you could imagine. But, once we were moved to another room on the same floor with working AC, all was right!
Like I said before, everyone on the property was so nice and helpful. The restaurant gave me a wet towel and ice to lay across Masons lap to help keep him cool since he was so uncomfortable in the 100+ weather. For most of the day, I had him in just his diaper, or shorts only and then put a shirt on him when we needed to. The pool was our best friend and we spent most of our weekend there. I’m glad I packed a lot of swim diapers and more than one pair of his swim trunks. Mason just loves the water and didn’t want to get out! He got to stay up way past his bedtime and just like during our trip to Catalina Island earlier this year, Mason was a party animal and didn’t want to go to bed.
All in all, it was a great trip and the perfect way to kick off summer!! I would definitely like to go back when Arizona isn’t so hot because I’m sure we would have explored Scottsdale a lot more had the weather been just a little more bearable. But relaxing by the pool the majority of the time is not something to complain about. It’s easy to keep a toddler entertained by the pool and we even did our nap time out on our daybed on Sunday.
Thank you for stopping by the blog today! I hope you enjoyed the post.
