I wanted to share a fitness update with you all since we’re already months into the new year and I know so many of you set health and fitness goals for 2018. In January I did my first Whole30 and absolutely loved the experience. While I have not stuck to a Whole30 diet I have been trying to make conscious decisions about my meals. They aren’t always healthy but I try to be cognizance of what I’m eating and when/why I make bad decisions when it comes to food.
I notice that my unhealthy choices typically happen when I’m not prepared. This includes when I’m running low on food in the fridge or out running errands and I didn’t pack any snacks. I think being conscious of what you’re eating and why is the first step to improving and making healthy choices easier for yourself.
As for working out and staying in shape, I’ve been scheduling time to go to the Bay Club 2-3 times a week. Since they have daycare and Mason is now super comfortable, I know I won’t be called mid-workout to come and pick him up. That did happen a few times at first because he wouldn’t stop crying. I am so happy now that I know if I make the effort to workout and get myself to the club that I’ll be able to workout.
I’ve mainly been taking group classes like Bodypump and yoga but also like to get into the spin room when there isn’t a class going on. I just had a one-on-one pilates class and it totally reminded me of how much I used to love going to pilates. I definitely think I’ll be scheduling around those classes for the rest of our time in San Jose.
But besides taking classes at the gym I’ve been trying to be outside with Mason. If it’s just going for a walk and pushing him in the stroller or chasing him at the park. That can be pretty good cardio! Between running around with him in the grass or pushing him on the swing or helping him around the jungle gym. Also, getting in some pool time with him has been a lot of fun! Since he can’t swim yet holding him up in the water while swimming around is super easy on my muscles but is a good way to engage my core.
I’d love to hear what you all do to stay in shape and how you keep it fun! I’m all about keeping my workouts fun and keeping an active lifestyle inclusive of Mason definitely helps.
