Happy Wednesday friends! I’ve owned this oversized wool knit sweater for years. I actually purchased it to wear to NYFW back in February of 2015!! I’ve been attending NYFW since I launched Have Need Want starting in September of 2013. I feel like I’m an OG in a sense even though when I started out I was a nobody just breaking into the industry. I still am a small fry compared to so many other fashion bloggers but I do know my way around NYFW!
That being said I’m super excited that NYFW is just a week away!! I’m actually packing this sweater. Four years later, it will be fun to share how differently I style it. Spoiler Alert for those who clicked to see the way I stayed it back in 2015, I will not be wearing it with a mini skirt 😉
But the reason I wanted to share this outfit and bring up about how long this sweater has been in my closet is to quickly chat about investing in classic pieces for your wardrobe. As you all may know, I love high end designer pieces but I’m also all about shopping at Target (and everywhere in between!). There is a reason that I splurge on some items and not on others. This sweater is one of those splurge items. I knew when I saw it that I would love it forever. That it wouldn’t go out of style and so it’s worth buying a high quality piece that will last. And boy has it lasted!
Every fall and winter I bring it out to enjoy. I wear it for everyday like how I styled it here and I also dress it up to go out! Investing in pieces that are also versatile are key. My cost per wear on this has got to be so low. When you compare that to a sweater that may not have cost much but only lasted one season (or a couple of wears), I’d much prefer to save and splurge. My wallet makes it so that I have to balance it and that’s why I love a good sale and a trendy piece every now and then from Target!
What items in your closet do you like splurge on?
Sweater: Margaux Lonnberg, old (similar options here and here). Jeans: Paige, sold out (love this pair and this pair). Boots: Steve Madden (still available in 5 colors). Sunglasses: Tom Ford c/o. Handbag: Gucci.
