I’ve had a cold that has been lingering now for over three weeks. At week two I realized I needed to make a change to my rescue remedy routine. As a child I was allergic to wheat and dairy so when I’m really sick I cut out wheat, dairy, and sugar. My acupuncturist was the one who originally told me to do that, way back in the day. I can cut out dairy pretty easily but I always make an exception to my morning latte because I just love the taste. There have only been a handful of times that I have not had espresso and those have either been when I’m doing a juice cleanse or that one time I wanted to prove to my husband that I’m not addicted to caffeine, just love the taste of espresso so much that I want it everyday. And just as an FYI, I went over three months without any caffeine via coffee or anything. So to try and nip this cold in the butt before I leave for the freezing cold weather in New York, I decided to go on a 10 day juice cleanse. It seems longer than 10 days only because I did a 3 day juice cleanse the week before but ate food on the weekend since I was starting to feel better and I had weekend plans, including wine tasting on Saturday with my mom and the Super Bowl on Sunday with Justin and our friends. After a weekend of eating food my cold took a turn for the worst!
I decided that rather than pay for a 10 day juice cleanse from places like Pressed Juicery, Project Juice, or The Plant Organic that I would bust out my Breville and make the juice myself. To make enough juice for 10 days we had a fridge full of veggies and our fruit bowl was overflowing onto the countertop. I made enough juice for each day so that the juice was as fresh as it could be. I made five juices a day mixing together different combinations of fruits and veggie to mix it up and keep it interesting. When your husband is eating food right next to you for dinner you need your juice to taste great and stay interesting.
What to buy:
3 5lb bags of organic carrots
20 cucumbers
6 bunches of organic Kale
8 bunches of celery
4 bunches of Romaine Lettuce
2 bunches of Spinach
2 bunches of parsley
1 shoot of ginger (a little piece in a juice is more than enough)
2 3lb bags of organic apples
2 3lb bags of organic oranges
2 pinapples
6-12 organic golden beets
6 lemons
I didn’t buy all this at once but throughout the cleanse so that everything was super fresh. These amounts will obviously change depending on what type of juices you make so take this as a template that you can change. Oh, and Justin also had some juice too. Hope you enjoyed this post and look out for some of my favorite juices coming on the blog soon!
