Happy first Monday of the New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. I took a nice long and much needed break from the blog and social media. Spent quality time with my family, continued powering through our ADU project that we are getting so close to finishing and focused on me and our growing baby. I’m planning to post a first trimester recap soon to compare the major differences between this pregnancy and my pregnancy with Mason so be on the lookout for that soon if you’re pregnant or just interested in hearing how it’s been going…But question for you, have you thought of your 2021 New Years Resolution yet? I’ve been thinking long and hard and this year as we prepare for baby #2 we’ve been in purging mode. Days after Christmas we started going through our things and selling on FB marketplace or donating a lot. We’ve got our attic to tackle which is going to be a big project but we’ve got to purge and make room for baby. So that leads me to my 2021 New Years Resolution, or really my motto for the New Year, that 2021 is going to be the year of less! Less stuff, less pressure, less stress.
Less Stuff: I didn’t jump on the Marie Kondo trend when it became popular in 2019 and now I’m thinking it might be what I need to at least kick our New Year purge into hyperdrive. Though I know it’s supposed to be by category and not room which would work everywhere except the attic. I just want to spend a day or two knocking that out. Last year I did start to really organize our home which truly helped feel like our house was less cluttered but we still have so much work to do before we bring our new baby home and find room for all the baby gear we’re going to need. But I will also be taking a less is more approach in this area this time around.
Less Pressure: With baby on the way, I am giving myself a lot of grace, resting when I feel tired and not putting so much pressure on myself to create content at the rate I’ve been doing (before the holidays). As much as I love working on my blog, which I do love a LOT, since I am the one setting the pace, number of posts per week, content creation, marketing, brand reach out, etc. my goals for my blog are not as big this year as they have been in the past. 2020 kicked my goals to the curb and that was a real struggle for me not reaching my goals and growing my business at the rate I wanted and have been growing year after year but we survived and I still worked on some major projects I am really proud of like my first ever paid collaboration with Nordstrom.
Less Stress: Ask anyone really close to me, and they’ll tell you stress has always been something I struggle with. My stress level goes along with the pressures I put on myself to perform at the best of my ability always. I don’t think wanting to perform the best you can is a bad thing in itself but when it starts to interfere with other aspects of live is when it becomes an issue. 2020 was the first year in a long time that I didn’t get stressed out, which seems odd since so much of our lives were turned upside-down. I think because I had less deadlines, less outside obligations, I was able to manage what was on my plate much better than years before. I really cherished all the extra time at home with Mason. We focused so much of Justin’s spare time working on our ADU. Large projects like that can be stressful at times but overall I really enjoy them. I love seeing our ideas and designs come to life and this project has been a labor of love we are both really proud of.
So there you have it, my 2021 New Years Resolution! I know this is going to be the best year yet as we prepare to welcome our second baby this June and I have a feeling that sticking to a year of less is really going to help overall as we continue to live in our small house as a family of 4.
As always, thank you so much for stopping by the blog today!
