It’s been almost 5 years since we’ve had a newborn and in that time there have been some new and improved design elements in car seats for little ones (or at least I think so). When I was doing my research on infant car seats this time around, I came across Cybex. I kept coming back to their products because I loved their designs as well as safety features. I decided on the Cybex Aton 2 SensorSafe™ car seat for a number of reasons. The Aton 2 is part of the Cybex Gold Collection and has a number of safety and design features that I didn’t find in other car seats.
5 reasons I went with the Cybex Aton 2 car seat:
1. I loved that the Aton 2 car seat was designed for babies 4lbs all the way to 35lbs Since Mason was only 4lbs 11oz at birth and we left the hospital with him only being 4lbs 3oz I wanted to be prepared for another preemie baby just in case.
2. The Aton 2 weighs only 9lbs and is one of the lightest infant car seats on the market which is great for the quick pop in and out errands like preschool drop-off and pick-up or just getting baby in and out of the car to the house.
3. The SensorSafe™ technology that sends safety information to your phone with an app to let you know if/when your child unbuckles the clip, if your child is put at risk of vehicular heatstroke because of ambient temperature changes or from being left alone in the car, and if your child has been seated for too long. There is also a bluetooth piece that clips into your car that chimes when you park the car if your baby is clipped into the car seat as a little reminder. I can’t imagine forgetting that I have my baby in the car but hey, better safe than sorry!
4. The Load Leg Base which adds additional safety for baby in case of an accident. The load leg base stabilizes the car seat and can reduce crash forces by up to 50%. You can adjust the leg so it reaches your car floor.
5. The Linear Side Impact Protection is a feature of CYBEX car seats that absorbs impact forces of certain side impact crashes and directs these forces into the energy absorbing shell of the car seat and away from the child’s sensitive neck area. By extending the L.S.P. system on the side of your car seat facing the door, this feature takes the initial brunt of the force and helps keep your child safer in the event of a near side impact.
We’ve been using the Cybex Aton 2 SensorSafe™ car seat from the day we left the hospital with Cooper and I couldn’t be more pleased with it. We also got the new Cybex Solution B booster seat for when Mason is ready to transition out of his convertible car seat. As much as I’d like to save his convertible car seat for when Cooper is big enough to transition out of his infant car seat, I can’t help but want to upgrade to the Cybex Sirona S SensorSafe™ 2 Rotating Car Seat. I just love the 360 rotating design! I can only imagine how much easier it will be to get him in and out of his car seat. Hopefully it will help with the transfer if he’s sleeping because that was always an issue when Mason fell asleep in his convertible car seat. As soon as I would try and get him out he would wake up, so there were days I’d be sitting in the car with the windows rolled down for 45 minutes so he could finish his nap.
