When planning my trip this season I made it a point to set aside time to schedule in meetings with PR firms that I have been working with. I really wanted to grow those relationships, meet the people I email back and forth with face to face, and hopefully strike up some new potential partnerships. When I was looking at the NYFW calendar Friday seemed like the best day to do it since they obviously would not be available on the weekend to meet up and Thursday was a full first day of shows for me, as you can see from my day one diary.
I met with one of the Fohr reps I’ve had the pleasure of working with on a few campaigns last year in the morning for a coffee meeting right around the corner from their office, at the Crosby Street Hotel. It was so nice to meet her in person, discuss some of the things I have going on that could be great opportunities to collaborate with some of the brands they work with as well as learn more about her and how she came to work at Fohr. I also got some insight on how they select influencers for their campaigns which was helpful to understand their process.
Right after my meeting with her, I ubered over to the Highline Hotel for backstage with the Redken team for the Linder show. The backstage area was super narrow and so it was hard to not feel like I was always in the way of someone. I’m all about making sure I’m giving those people working the space they need but it was almost impossible not to be in someones way. The models were getting facials followed by super light natural makeup. One tip I got for achieving a dewey finish is to mix a small amount of your foundation in with your moisturizer. The hair just like the makeup was meant to enhance the models natural hair. So each style was very unique. I noticed that to be a trend this season on the runway.
Unlike in past seasons where it was all about uniformity this season really embraced the uniqueness of each person. Some models had very little product applied to their hair and others got a bit more to help style their looks.
I did get a sneak peek of the collection. Not on the models but did get to see each look hung up. There were some great color plays as well as textures going on in the collection. After seeing the sneak peek, I was really bummed I couldn’t stay for the show. But honestly it was for the best because a bit before I was planning on leaving I got really sick. It’s like the small confined space got to me or something but I all of a sudden felt really sick. It hit me like a ton of bricks. I rushed out of the backstage area as quickly as I could without bumping into anyone.
I also had another show at Spring Studios at 2pm so I had just enough time to go back to the hotel to relax for just a bit, eat some food, drink lots of water, and pull myself together. On the way to see Nonie, I ran into a few blogger friends outside Spring Studios. It’s always fun to seem some friendly faces in a sea of strangers. We had some fun shooting together outside the show and even had our picture snapped by Getty Images!! This is the first time that’s ever happened to me. Now I’m on the lookout to see if those images ended up anywhere else!
I didn’t want to miss Nonie’s show as I really loved her collection last September. That was the first time I had been invited to her show and so I was super excited to get an invite again this season. The collection was beautiful. I was so happy to have a seat, so that I wasn’t on my feet any more than I absolutely had to. I struggled through it, not feeling well, but I am so glad that I did because I would have been really bummed had I missed seeing her show.
Luckily, after Nonie, the only other thing I had planned for the day was my meeting with Tractenburg & Co. I had about 30 minutes in the hotel before I jetted off to their office. It was so nice to see their studio, get a rundown on a number of the brands they are currently working with. Many brands I already love and use on a regular basis. I feel like these meetings are super beneficial because they are able to learn more about me and see what brands I would be a great fit for, just off of our conversation and I got to know a lot more about them too.
After our meeting, I went back to the hotel, picked up some food to eat in the club lounge and then went to bed early. Figured I should get as much rest as I could to hopefully feel better the next day.
As always, thank you so much for stopping by the blog.
