I decided that for this baby we would do a gender reveal. We didn’t do one with Mason because Justin and I were both at my obgyn appointment for the ultrasound and so we were able to get the news at the same time. Also, we didn’t have a 4 year old, like we do now, who had his idea of what we’re having. I really wanted to get him excited for his new sibling and thought that doing a powder cannon gender reveal would be fun for him! We didn’t have a big party to do the reveal, because COVID, but also because I wanted it to be about Mason getting excited for our new arrival and didn’t want him to be overwhelmed.
Mason has been convinced that he’s going to be getting a baby sister since before I was even pregnant. And as soon as we found out that I was pregnant he would not stop talking about baby sister. We think it all stemmed from Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood when Daniel got his baby sister, Margaret. Then more recently he’s been saying he’s getting both a baby brother and a baby sister. “Mommy has a baby sister in her belly and I have a baby brother in my belly.” It was beyond cute but showed us it was time to reveal to him what we’re having so he has as much time to prepare for baby A #2 a possible. And convincing him he doesn’t in fact have a baby in his belly has been harder than I thought. He says he’s pregnant too and needs to share my maternity pillow with me…that’s a whole other story!
So time for the reveal. It’s a….
BOY!!! We’re so happy to be adding another baby boy to the family and giving Mason a baby brother. I can’t wait to see their lifelong relationship form. I know that they are going to be best friends!!
On another note about doing a powder cannon gender reveal, make sure everyone is pointing their cannon straight up in the air…otherwise you risk having the smoke cover your faces. Unfortunately, Justin didn’t have his cannon pointing straight up even after we were telling Mason to hold his pointing up and away from him face. These pics didn’t turn out nearly as I had hoped they would, but I wanted to share anyway. Also, take note of the direction of the wind. Another thing we totally didn’t think of so everything blew straight towards my parents who were taking the photos and video. Most of our photos looked like they were taken inside a cloud and the picture quality even with my Canon 80D didn’t turn out well. I tried to grab some stills from the video my dad got but as you can see most of the pictures turned out grainy and not in focus…so maybe I should have titled this one, powder cannon gender reveal fail…
