This years travel plans have definitely not turned out the way we had originally planned. Month after month of staying at home and seeing photos pop up on my timeline of places we traveled to last year, had me dreaming about going on a family trip. We did take a few days over the 4th of July weekend to go camping in Carmel Valley, which was tons of fun, but besides that we’ve stayed home because of Covid-19. September is a busy month for us usually, especially since it is Justin and Mason’s birthdays, just a few days apart from each other. We decided to book a little California coastal getaway to Oceanpoint Ranch down in Cambria. In the end, Justin wasn’t able to go with us. He got called out on a strike team just days before we were supposed to leave. So I turned our getaway into a mother, son trip.
Oceanpoint Ranch gave me all the Yellowstone vibes. I immediately fell in love with the decor as soon as I saw it while checking out hotels in the area. I loved that they had fire pits as well as outdoor games we could play as a family. Mason was into the bulls that you could try and rope. Turns out, it is a lot harder than you would think to rope a cow/bull. They also had a game room with more indoor games you could play as long as you wore a mask. We booked a time slot for the pool as well. So for the hour we were there it was just us. The weather was overcast and pretty cold most of the time we were there, but we made the most of our time.
It was so nice to get a change of scenery and check out different coastal towns. While I’ve been up and down the coast with Justin, Mason has really only been to LA, Long Beach, Newport Beach, Anaheim, and Paso Robles down south. For our babymoon Justin and I went down to Pismo Beach and checked out Morro Bay and San Louis Obispo. I wanted to get Justin his favorite salt water taffy in Morro Bay, so I took Mason for a day trip down there.
This trip was definitely what we needed, I just wish Justin was able to go with us. We did however meet some other families with kids around Mason’s age that were staying at the Oceanpoint Ranch and so while still being Covid safe and wearing our masks, I did let him play outside with them.
